Livingston Parish Council Chambers & OMV
Commercial Design Interiors, LLC was commissioned by Labarre Architects to develop the interior concept for the new
Livingston Parish Council Chambers and Office of Motor Vehicles. The idea behind the design was to create a space with
traditional bones, but with a more contemporary use of materials. The client wanted to have a sense of permanence and
grandeur without using a classical style typically found in council chambers. The Council Chambers was given a wood
wainscot with simple lines and a grand council desk and ceiling element to bring the councilmen to prominence. The
custom council desk was designed to accommodate ever-changing audio visual equipment, but to hide equipment from
the general public.
There were separate uses for the building however we used the same materials but in a different way in each. The Office
of Motor Vehicles was a more traditionally utilitarian space, but our recommendation was to create a space that was
inviting yet hard wearing. We carried tile found in the Council side into the OMV side, but changed the pattern and size of
the tiles and carried over similar paint colors and millwork to create a cohesive design for the entire building. Some of our
responsibilities were to include:
- Specifying all fixtures finishes and furnishings for both the OMV and the Council Chambers.
- Design and creating construction documents for all custom millwork for both the OMV and the Council Chambers.
