The
Shaw Center for the Arts – Information/Ticket Counter
The Shaw Center for the Arts serves as a space for welcoming the
community to experience the arts. The information and ticket counter,
located in the main lobby, were challenged to serve the needs of
many. The client’s design needs were both aesthetic and operational—the
ticket counter needed to coexist with and compliment the existing
design of the lobby and also manage and facilitate the needs of
not only the patrons, but the many users of the desk. The concept
of the ticket counter was to use a simple geometric shape characteristic
of the architecture in the Shaw Center and visually heavy material
and finishes to balance the desk within the towering 60-foot atrium.
The ticket counter served as a visual queue for patrons needing
assistance, a place to disseminate information, and a ticket station
for the LSU Museum of Art and Manship Theatre. By understanding
the operational needs of this multi-use counter, Commercial Design
Interiors, LLC, incorporated necessary functionality into the design.
The result provided adequate technology access, needed storage
space, and areas to interact with patrons. To ensure the design
met the requirements of all the business partners involved, collaboration
and communication were the keys to success of the project.
